Language Classes for Citizenship

The Português Língua de Acolhimento (PLA) course is a structured Portuguese language program designed for foreign residents in Portugal. It helps non-native speakers achieve A2 proficiency, meeting the minimum language level required for Portuguese residency and citizenship.

  • Requirements:
    • The recipients must be holders of a residence permit or must present proof that the procedure for the extension of the stay in national territory or for the granting or renewal of a residence permit has been initiated;
  • Registration:
    • Registration starts in early July for the following school year. The school can only accommodate 200 students, but they receive many more registrations each year. So, it’s rare to gain entry into the class the same year you register. Luckily, the school maintains a list of registered students who haven’t taken classes and they contact people from this list before registration begins again each new year.
