Discount Supermarkets (Supermercados de Desconto)

These stores focus on low prices and often have a more limited selection of brands and products compared to regular supermarkets. Their layout is typically more basic, with minimal decoration.

Examples:

  • Lidl  (Largo de Santo Amaro)– Although it’s a regular supermarket, Lidl is known for its deep discounts and value pricing.
  • Aldi (Rua de São Pedro)– A well-known discount supermarket chain offering a limited but competitive selection of goods, mostly private-label products.
Local and Traditional Markets (Mercados Locais)

These are smaller, often family-run stores or open-air markets where customers can find fresh produce, meat, seafood, and other regional specialties. They are more common in rural areas or smaller neighborhoods.

Examples:

Mercado Municipal de Tavira located on Avenue Dom Manuel I – Fresh local produce, spices, fish, flowers & butchers.
